Overview
Some EMEA countries do not have employers’ liability/workers’ compensation (EL/WC) coverage as such, as it is either part of government social security schemes or included under local general liability policies.
As with the general liability line of business, EL/WC remained competitive in the first half of 2010. Marsh operations in most European countries reported that insurers are striving for rate increases but discounts of as much as 30% were still possible for good quality risks in certain countries. Those geographies with developing EL/WC markets reported significant increases in premium volumes as awareness of employers’ liability insurance and its benefits are recognised. The local employers’ liability markets are still competitive but, generally, underwriters are working to maintain or increase rates upon renewal.
